製油所等で発生するCO2をメタノールに直接合成する共同検討を開始＜English Follows＞

TOYO and Cosmo Energy to Initiate a Joint Study on Direct Synthesis of CO2 Emitted from Refineries and Other Facilities into Methanol



東洋エンジニアリング株式会社（取締役社長 細井 栄治、以下、TOYO）とコスモエネルギーホールディングス株式会社（代表取締役社長 山田 茂、以下、コスモエネルギーグループ）は、触媒を利用したCO2からのメタノール直接合成に向けた共同検討について基本合意書を10月23日に締結したことをお知らせいたします。

TOYOは水素と製油所や工場から分離・回収したCO2からメタノールを直接合成できる（g-Methanol(R)）ライセンス技術を保有しています。CO2を直接原料として使用できることから、複数のプロセスを経由することなく、効率的にメタノールを製造することが期待されます。

CO2から変換されたメタノールは、重要な基礎化学原料として化学製品や燃料（船舶用燃料、e-fuel）などに展開可能なため、脱炭素に向けたCCU（Carbon dioxide Capture and Utilization）として注目されています。

両社は今回の共同検討を通じて、コスモエネルギーグループの製油所等から発生するCO2由来のサステナブル製品の生産を目指し、CO2削減効果や投資採算性等を双方にて検討してまいります。

Toyo Engineering Corporation (TOYO, President and CEO Eiji Hosoi) and Cosmo Energy Holdings Co., Ltd. (Cosmo Energy Group, Representative Director and CEO Shigeru Yamada) today (October 23) concluded a basic agreement regarding a joint study aimed at direct synthesis of CO2 into methanol using a catalyst.

TOYO possesses a licensed technology (g-Methanol(R)) that enables direct synthesis of methanol from hydrogen and CO2 separated and captured from refineries and plants. Since CO2 can be used directly as a direct feedstock, it is expected that methanol can be produced efficiently without having to go through multiple processes.

Methanol converted from CO2 is an important basic chemical feedstock that can be applied in chemical products, fuels (marine fuels, e-fuel), and the like, and is therefore attracting attention for its use in CCU (carbon capture and utilization) aimed at decarbonization.

Through this joint study, the two companies will examine factors such as the CO2 reduction effect and investment profitability, with the aim of producing sustainable products derived from CO2 emitted from refineries and other Cosmo Energy Group facilities.



TOYO is transforming its business portfolio and profit structure by strengthening its existing businesses and developing new business fields, mainly in the area of carbon neutrality, based on its 2021-2025 Medium-Term Management Plan.
