Chelsea Jordan Hamby and William Thomas Cheek were married Oct. 10, 2015, at
Gambill Estate, Roaring River. The Rev. Mark Hall officiated at the ceremony.
Wedding music was provided by Kaitlyn and Makayla Cheek, violinists, nieces of
the groom, Logan Mull, guitarist, and Block Party Productions.

The bride is the daughter of Kipi and Melissa Hamby of North Wilkesboro. She
is the granddaughter of Arvie Lou Hamby and the late Max Hamby of North
Wilkesboro, and Judith Spears Cardwell of Wilkesboro and the late Gene Spears of
Purlear. The bride is a 2009 graduate of North Wilkes High School and is a 2012
graduate of Wilkes Community College with an associate’s degree in advertising
and graphic design. She is self-employed as a Mary Kay sales director.

The groom is the son of Tam and Jan Cheek of North Wilkesboro. He is the
grandson of the Rev. Fellman Cheek of Roaring River and the late Betty Cheek of
North Wilkesboro, and Oaklen Minton and the late Tom Minton of Wilkesboro. The
groom is a 2007 graduate of West Wilkes High School and is a 2009 graduate of
Wilkes Community College. He is employed as a pest control professional for
Terminix.

Given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a designer, strapless,
ivory, full tulle ball gown with extensive bead detailing on the basque waist
bodice, adorned with a sweetheart neckline. The tulle ball gown complemented the
bride’s cathedral length veil.

She carried a bouquet of fresh flowers containing light blue and white
hydrangeas, coral spray roses, blue thistle, dusty miller wide leaf, peach
hyericum, silver brunia, coral field roses and cotton buds. The bouquet was
wrapped in navy blue ribbon with a coral floral bracelet, belonging to the
bride’s maternal great-grandmother.

Morgan Howard of Moncks Corner, S.C. was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were
Kayla Pierce of Statesville, Miriam Myers of Wilkesboro and Kayla Miller of
Liberty.

Tam Cheek served as best man for his son. Groomsmen were Joseph Cheek of
Charlotte, Cody Burdiss of Purlear and Austin Miller of Liberty. Ushers were
Trevor Hamby, cousin of the bride, and Andrew Cheek, cousin of the groom.

Alarie Meade of North Wilkesboro, cousin of the groom, was flower girl. Ring
bearers were Aiden Cheek of Wilkesboro and Slater Meade of North Wilkesboro,
cousins of the groom.

Amber Mathis, cousin of the groom, and Cassie Burdiss, family friend of the
bride, distributed wedding programs and attended the guest register, as guests
signed a hand-made quilt with their wishes and blessings for the bridal
couple.

A lantern was placed at the cross altar in loving memory of the bridal
couple’s late grandparents. Prior to the wedding, the bridal couple gave special
family members an embroidered handkerchief and keepsake note.

Guests and the bridal party entered the outdoor ceremony through a country
door display, created by family friend Lisa Eller.

Following a wedding trip to Honolulu and Maui, Hawaii, the couple is residing
in North Wilkesboro.

Reception

The barn at Gambill Estates was the setting for the rustic, chic-themed
reception held in honor of the bridal couple. The event was given by the bride’s
parents.

Joanne Creek of Pamplico, S.C. assisted with the reception decorations, and
coordinated lunch for the bridal party, prior to the wedding. The bride’s
portrait was displayed on a wooden easel, with smaller portraits displayed
throughout the reception area. A legacy of love table held pictures of the
bridal couple’s parents, grandparents and great-grandparents.

Guests were served hors d’oeuvres of imported and domestic cheeses, fresh
fruits and berries, assorted raw vegetables with dips, crackers and flatbreads,
from a rustic cheese table featuring rustic crates and wooden serving
pieces.

Tables were covered with white linen cloths with navy and coral table
runners, handmade by the bride and her maternal grandmother. Centerpieces of
baby’s breath arranged in navy, tan and coral mason jars were placed on cut logs
on each table, along with photographs of the bridal couple throughout their
lives. The bridal couple’s table was decorated in a similar motif, with wooden
boxes filled with fresh flowers. A fabric swag, created and designed by the
bride, and the words, “Mr. and Mrs.” also accented this special table.

After the bridal party was introduced, the couple shared their first dance,
followed by the father-daughter dance and the mother-son dance.

The Rev. Brian Cardwell, friend of the couple, returned thanks. Guests were
served a mixed green salad with assorted dressings, chicken florentine with
tomato concasse, a mashed potato bar with fixings, southern style green beans on
mismatched china.

The strawberry with cream cheese icing wedding cake, adorned with Willow
Tree’s “Together” cake topper, was served from an antique dresser, that belonged
to the groom’s paternal great-grandmother.

A s’mores bar, created by Lisa Eller, Chastain Eller and Hannah Mull, was
available for guests to enjoy by the campfire. Guests were given a take home
s’mores gift box, which included a photo and thank you from the bridal
couple.

In keeping with the bridal couple’s love of travel, guests were asked to
write a note to the couple about their best travel adventures, which were placed
in a suitcase, which belonged to the bride’s maternal great-grandmother.

Assisting with the event were Gadabout’s catering, Alaina Grit, Edenhouse and
Waterhouse Photography.

Special words were given by the bride’s father, Kipi Hamby, the matron of
honor, Morgan Howard, and the groom’s father, Tam Cheek. The couple left through
a tunnel of sparklers.

Rehearsal dinner

Tam and Jan Cheek, parents of the prospective groom, were hosts at a
rehearsal dinner in honor of the bridal couple. The Southern style menu included
the couple’s favorites of Low Country shrimp and grits, country ham biscuits,
apple butter, Southern fried chicken, baked macaroni and cheese and fresh
collard greens. Guests were also served a pumpkin spice cake and a chocolate
groom’s cake. The groom’s cake was topped with a miniature model RZR from the
bride.

Gadabout’s catering and Alaina Grit assisted with the event.

The family life center was decorated by family friends, Kayla Wingler and
Vicky Miller, in the bridal couple’s colors with the theme of “Our Journey
Begins.” The decor was centered around the couple’s love of outdoor adventures
and included coral roses and greenery. A travel suitcase was displayed, filled
with an engagement photo of the couple, a world map and a wedding clock set to 4
p.m., the time when the couple’s journey would begin the next day. Guests signed
a congratulatory banner and the bridal couple exchanged special gifts with each
other.

Courtesies extended

The bridal party along with special family and friends gathered at the Life
Center at Calvary Baptist Church for a get-together and work day. The event was
given by the bride-elect’s parents. Subway and 13 Bones assisted with the lunch
and supper.

The bridal couple was honored at a household shower given by two of the
bride-elect’s aunts, Kim Caudill Hamby and Kathy Hamby. Guests were served from
a variety of menu items including a bridal dress made of cupcakes, fresh fruits,
finger sandwiches, chips, dip and pickles.

Carisa Meade, Lisa Mathis and Heather Cheek, relatives of the prospective
groom’s family, gave the bridal couple a “Honey Do” shower at the home of Todd
and Lisa Mathis. A variety of refreshments including a floral basket of
cupcakes, lemonade, popcorn and an ice cream sundae bar with all the fixings,
were served poolside.

Jordan Hamby and Thomas Cheek were honored at a shower on Sept. 14, at
Calvary Baptist Church, given by the women of the church. Guests were served
cake, fruit and vegetable trays, chips and dip, sandwiches, cheese balls and a
variety of other foods.

Linda Greene, family friend, was hostess for a Tastefully Simple shower for
the bridal couple at the home of the prospective groom’s mother, Jan Cheek.
Guests were served a variety of Tastefully Simple foods with an opportunity to
stock the pantry for the bridal couple.

Lisa Stokes and Miriam Myers, special friends, were hostesses at a Pampered
Chef shower for the bridal couple on Sept. 21. Guests were served a variety of
foods prepared with Pampered Chef products and given the opportunity to stock
the bridal couple’s kitchen with products.

The Holbrook House in Traphill was the location for a bridal party spa brunch
honoring Jordan Hamby, her bridesmaids, flower girl and special family members
on Oct. 9. Hostesses Mrs. Vicky Miller and Ms. Holly Porter served guests from a
menu including cucumber dill sandwiches, chicken salad, meat and cheese trays,
veggie and fruit pizzas, breakfast casserole, pumpkin bread, infused fruit
waters and tea.

Holly Porter, owner of the Holbrook House, opened her home for the guests to
enjoy chair massages and pedicures. Wooden coral floral arrangements created by
Mrs. Vicky Miller were included throughout the home. The bridal attendants were
presented with a special gift set from the bride-to-be including a monogrammed
storage organizer, cosmetic brush set and wedding jewelry. Food for the event
was served on china patterns that belonged to the bride-elect’s maternal
grandmother and great-grandmother.
