an autumn wedding
The idea of an autumnal wedding appeals to our inner romantic (log fires,
mulled wine…) but poses serious conundrums in the wardrobe department. Unlike
the seemingly endless summer weddings, which can be navigated with a careful
rotation of failsafe dresses, late-year weddings often require a stealthy new
buy.
Luckily, there are a host of season-appropriate buys in luxe velvets and
bewitching, wintry patterns in store now.
Velvet will keep you snug, nod to current trends and luxe-up your look
Autumn’s key fabric comes into its own for weddings, as it looks and feels
luxurious. A suit will make for a directional outfit, as long as you pare
everything else on your outfit down. A simple camisole worn underneath will look
refined.
A velvet midi is also a trend-conscious option, and will help layering come
to play without looking too casual. Wear a thin polo-neck underneath, and add a
pair of crystal earrings for a dash of magpie glamour.
Floral maxi dresses aren’t just for summer - and mean you can hide smart
boots underneath
Keep the shoulders fitted but the silhouette loose, and a long-sleeved maxi
will make a lovely winter wedding guest look. Pick a whimsical pattern - there
are plenty of dark florals out there - and pair with block heeled boots. All you
need is a little minaudière to dangle from your wrist (and to store your
lipstick in).
Layer up on top
Black tights have a habit of looking all wrong when teamed with feminine
dresses. But nude coloured nylons can also cause trouble, especially unless they
100% match your skin tone. Call us hardy folks, but we believe that
long-sleeves, plus a faux fur jacket will keep you warm enough to go bare down
below.
Don’t forget the small details
Nod to the festive season with metallic accents, coloured jewels and sparkly
hair accessories that will catch the light. Unlike summer weddings where less is
often more, autumnal celebrations are all about embracing decadent details.
