Dress Through The Decades

The most fashion of the '50s might seem comparitively tame these days but that doesn't mean that there weren't some outrageous and thouroughly apealing outfits back then.

The 50s in many ways saw the cultural 'birth' of the teenager as we think of them today, with disposable income and a freedom of mobility never before seen, it created the first flourishes of rebellious youth. The greasers were the model for teenage rebellion in the US, a subculture of working class youth and in the UK was the precursor to the rockers of the '60s. One of the most iconic portrayals of this cultural subset for women was Olivia Newton John's character in the late '70s film Grease.

The '50s rebel chick look is a hot option for any '50s or movie theme party and is guaranteed to stand out (in a good way) in any other fancy dress event.
Swing That Thing Like It's The '60s

The if the '50s birthed modern youth culture the '60s were it's big awakening. It was a time of social and sexual revolution, the birth of the hippie and a widespread counter culture that questioned and defied authority as well as a growing youth oriented pop culture. It was an era of fashion models and high fashion.

The 60s party girl look might be a little dated but you can't say that it isn't fun and a little flirty! Thigh high boots, miniskirts and micro-dresses are the mainstay of this look, it's all about being bold.

Be A '70s Disco Diva

The 1970s were the wind down of the summer of love, it was the end of the communal love-fest of the 60s and the beginning of the 'me' generation. Disco was in and the dance floor was the new catwalk. All kinds of elaborate fashion associated with youth culture was cropping up with so many different subcultures the variety of looks to choose from was astounding. That said the biggest thing to be carried over from the '70s was the music (who doesn't remember ABBA?) and flares. So the best option for picking out a sexy 70s friendly outfit is to focus on the disco look.

The '70s Disco Diva outfit is probably a nice mix of different elements of fashion from the era, a slinky black catsuit with flared bottoms, this outfit will send jaws to the floor when you strut your stuff to your favourite party music.

Are You A Wild Child Of The '80s

This was an era of punk, rebellious pop, synthesised music and stars with only one name. Nostalgia from this era is still fuelling careers and media binges. Stars like madonna and Cyndi Lauper gave girls a new carefree outlook on life and a wild and unusual look to follow. It was all about a mish mash of styles and culture, forging something a little different and unique.

The '80s wild child outfit brings together the cute clash of styles into an outfit that will make you think the clock turned back 30 years (has it really been that long?). It's the kind of outfit that is a must if you girls just wanna have fun.
A '90s Outfit That's A Real Life Saver

The nineties didn't really have a hugely iconic look for the ladies, but there were a few hot outfits that were very much a part of the decade. One outfit sure to get some real attention for 90s themed fancy dress would be a baywatch lifegaurd outfit. Forget all the cheesey girl power of the Spice Girls, their outfits weren't hottest or most identifiable.

This is an outfit that was plastered across TV screens through a good portion of the decade, yes it's a little skimpy but it's definitely worth wearing for the recognition (and reaction). This version of the outfit is a little less revealing, partly because you don't want to be stuck in an ultra skimpy swimsuit if your party is in the evening and partly so there's no wardrobe malfunctions.
